As per the headline in Question #2, was the headline representative of the article? Please explain your reasoning in detail. (4 Marks)
The headline, “Rihanna performs first full concert in 8 years at Billionaire Ambani Family’s pre-wedding event in India,” will be able to concisely inform us of a number of important topics. There will be some discussion about Rihanna, a well-known figure in the music industry who is always excited because she hasn’t performed a full show in many years. This concert is unique because of Rihanna’s appearance and because it was held at a pre-wedding celebration hosted by one of India’s wealthiest families. This type of gathering is typically highly elaborate and quite large.
If the article at least touches on the performance of Rihanna and doesn’t tell us a little bit about the family and how the concert fits in the wedding celebrations, then the title might be said to mislead a little. I suppose that would be a little like somebody telling you that you get a burger with all the stuff, and then you go and get a plain one; it’s still okay it’s just not what you would have expected.
However, the way the headline is written is smart because it combines a few things that make people want to read it. It has a surprise element in getting to see a performance by Rihanna after so many years, has the glam of a billionaire’s event, and it has an interesting setup in India. All these things make a story that sounds like it’s got a bit of everything music, fame, and a fancy celebration.
